My Mother Earth

You are earth mother
Always over
Never under
Encompass all
Before and after

You are earth mother
Carried off
By passing water
Bearing algae
Red as laughter

Bare your breast
To moonlit beaches
Take me back to
Fresh made promise
Tell me that you'll
Love me always
Run me through your hands

Take my years and
Make them oceans
Take our hearts
make them unbroken
Tell me that you'll
Love me always
Promise you'll be there

For I am walking
icy shoreline
I am crying
To the riptide
Bring me back my
Earthen mother
Bring me back to sand

Dammit girl
You've got me wishing
Running home to
Ancient lines
Where pens could speak
And ink was simple
Where voices filled
Our hearts

Make the earth
And take my wishes
Make the stars
And hold them tight
Fill your mouth
With moon and winter
Fill it with November

November brought me to you
November brought me home
November brings your destiny
November will never
Be the same

For autumn was
Our brightest moments
With cider spiked on
Love letter jive
Where earth is full
Her budding wish
Is brimming with
November

So come dear hold me
In the bunker
Cry and echo
Tell me wholly
How can we be honest here
in dark and dripping chamber?

All I want is poetry
And here I have a future
With round brown eyes
And snowy lips
Of hands and softened whisper

I'll tell you every secret
I'll listen to your fear
I'll wrap it all in morning dew
Throw it to the western sea
And take you to the kitchen
Where you bandaged up my shin

Our hearts
have both been broken
My eyes
Are dark with yours
My dreams
are full of you dear
Your universe of sound

Scream into the wind now
Demand it take you home
Bring my waters with it
Rain into the wells until
We're swimming in your sonnet

A weeping set of lullaby
A broken figurine
Your fingers tight
Around my wrist
In interlocking vow

What you have made is
Little hand
A story in your mind
Just scribbles in my pocket now
Preamble to your masterpiece

You're making now the mountains
You're making now the plains
You're making soon the rising east
The sun will come
Cast shadow far
Into the world you're making

But you are mother earth
Always mine
Never falter
We take it all
Hands together

You are mother earth
Carried off
By spring and summer
Holding days
In the horizon

You're my mother earth.

Sand and water makes me

I am ebb and riptide pulling
broken calls of Livingston's drone
we will name him after this sunset
fill our growler with its foam

For I've been called for prison guard
been called down to betray
I am shiver chill of first spring
and yet - its belly leads my way

For mountain treasures light a distance
an adventure long at sea
I am ebb and riptide pulling
I'm a fading loyalty

I am far before my timing
soaring seagull to the depths
with a crash of never trying
dealing out a thousand deaths

With a knocking on the shoreline
and you cradled in my palm
I am ebb and riptide pulling
I'm betrayal in the fog

But you made me Spanish oceans
roll of waves on deathbed plans
I will break our unmade promise
for my other gaining sands

Build a home upon blue waters
lean to weather God and change
don't begrudge my stern decision
You have made this mountain range
